Double contract win to increase Leaf turnover
 
LEAF Catering has strengthened its portfolio by winning two key contracts in Watford.
 
First came the successful tender to run Café Purple at the recently-refurbished Watford Palace Theatre and hot on its heels came the contract to run Watford YMCA’s catering operation, previously run by Aramark.

Leaf already has a presence in the town, as it advises Watford Football Club on its matchday corporate hospitality and kiosk operation – as well as the club’s midweek banqueting and function room hire.

Leaf also ran the restaurant in the town’s flagship department store Clements for six years, before the store closed down in 2004.

“We’re going through a period of controlled growth,” says Leaf’s managing director Farhad Tabai. “We hold contracts across many different sectors and these two wins will further broaden our experience, and have already resulted in many more enquiries.”

Café Purple forms part of the massive £7.5-million refurbishment of the Edwardian Watford Palace Theatre, which itself has drawn plaudits from the architectural press.

“Watford has a growing business community and our aim at Café Purple is to meet the needs of these customers during the day, as well as the thousands of consumers who come shopping in Watford,” says Farhad. “We also need to serve theatregoers, so we have created a very flexible approach, without stinting on quality.”

Meanwhile Watford’s YMCA catering operation is a more recent contract win, and also exemplifies Leaf’s multi-faceted skill-set. That’s because the agreement encompasses catering for residents, running a public bar, café and restaurant, as well as operating a conferencing service for both the YMCA itself and external organisations.

“The YMCA has numerous challenges, not least its relatively hidden location in the town centre, so we also need to promote its use to the general public. But it literally feeds into our core skill of flexibility and it’s a great contract to have to our name,” says Farhad.
